One
of the most common statements we hear is, “You
people really know how to have fun!” We think so, because our club
is about doing good, and having fun doing it.
The Torrey Pines Kiwanis Club formed in 1982, and merged with the La Jolla
Jewel City Club several years later. The result is a vibrant organization
of people with the spirit and ability to be more than just a member of
the community. We currently have approximately 40 members and belong to
Kiwanis Division 21. Club members take pride in developing personal relationships,
building camaraderie, and supporting mutual business interests.
We make a special effort to focus on helping San Diegans with disabilities
by funding various recreational and rehabilitative programs. Since
1988 the TPK has sent more than 400 San Diegans with disabilities
to Durango,
Colorado to learn to snow ski. We are increasingly supporting sports
rehabilitation programs for military men and women injured in combat.
If you appreciate
or understand the restorative nature of a physical challenge, then
you understand why we support our beneficiaries.
Torrey Pines Kiwanis is for the person of today.
Maybe you know what Kiwanis used to be. Look at who we are now.
We’re
men and women, retired or recently out of college. We’re executives
and 9-to-5ers. We’re of every faith, background, and political
stripe.
Member Responsibilities
We strive to have all members attend every meeting, but most of us
still work, so we know that isn’t always possible. Realistically,
to be an asset to the club your attendance should exceed 75%.
Each member is expected to participate in the club's major project:
The La Jolla Festival of the Arts™.™. This event is held for an entire
weekend
in June.
Each member serves as Kiwanian of the day (KOD) when assigned, once
or twice per year. The KOD fines members, introduces the guest speaker,
and provides the raffle prize. We encourage happy dollars because it’s
important to recognize and share the important things in your life.
(We party with this money!)
Member Financial Commitment:
Initiation Fee: $60.00
Annual Dues: $150.00 payable semi-annually (prorated for new members
based on initiation date).
Breakfast Fees: $125.00 quarterly (usually 13 meetings). Visa or
MasterCard is accepted for all pre-paid dues and fees.
